By the early 1860s, the skirts had taken on a more triangular shape. The volume had begun to shift towards the back, and the prime angle of perception shifted from the front to the side.

The graceful sweep of the skirt of this dress is supported by its original hooped underskirt and petticoat. The organdy fabric is printed with peacock feather eyes, and the copious amounts of lace are mechanically produced.
